Confidence is a necessity for people in all walks of life, especially sales people. Confidence is having belief in your abilities and projecting that to others. Here are some tips for feeling more confident at work.
1. Dress for success. Wear clothes that flatter your figure and colouring. If in doubt seek advice from a good fashion store - better to spend a little more on clothing that makes you feel good than buy something that sits in the back of your wardrobe unworn.
2. Keep up appearances. Guys shave every day like it matters, girls keep yourself groomed and tidy. You never know who you're going to meet or where so keeping yourself looking good at all times means you're always prepared.
3. Work on your posture. Try yoga or pilates to tap into your body and keep yourself upright. A big giveaway of an unconfident person is slouched shoulders and poor posture. Keep your body tall and straight and your back will thank you for it.
4. Be kind to yourself. Be aware of the little comments you make to yourself during the day and make an effort to "weed out" any negative comments you tell yourself. A good trick is to wear a rubber band around your wrist and ping it every time you say something negative to yourself.
5. Learn to say thank-you. I'm sure you're very polite but do you say thank-you when someone gives you a compliment? Don't question their judgement and disagree! Learning to accept compliments will build your self esteem and confidence.
6. Have a positive afformation. Affirmations are great, afformations can be better. Turn your positive statement about yourself into a question such as: "Why am I such a positive, outgoing person?"
7. Exercise. This may seem like a funny tip but studies, and my personal experience, have shown that exercise makes us feel more confident about our bodies, more co-ordinated and gives us more energy. For some people it might involve pumping iron and for others an upbeat Zumba or spin class. Find what you love and give it a go in the morning before an important meeting or event - you'll be amazed how good you feel.
8. Set goals, achieve them and celebrate. Nothing boosts your confidence like achievement so set lots of little goals as well as big ones and remember to celebrate!
